His Grace is Enough

I knew my test score would be a little lower than I thought. It always is. I was prepared for it to be lower than I had wanted. But not that low. All morning long I did the best I could to stay in that chair when I just was ready to go. After four long hours, I was finally released to go home. And then the teacher grabbed me and pulled me into the office. "What's wrong." I explained how disheartened I was. She gave me the normal speech about how hard it is to learn a language and that I'm doing well, etc., etc... and she hugged me - which was of more value than the pep-talk. Of course I cried as soon as I got home. For a long while. But, not too long - because I needed to go back to school in the afternoon for a tour. Another professor was leading a tour on the Roman history and architecture of Verona.

There were five of us. One lady had lived hear for twenty years and was just now taking her first Italian course. Three other students had just begun school yesterday. As the tour went on, the teacher realised that the beginning students did not understand anything. So, he asked me to translate. Which I could. It was easy. It was fun. I ate it up.

At one point he said, "Oh! I'm so glad you're here. Thanks for giving me a hand." I told him what a blessing it was for me since I was so discouraged this morning. I told him I remember coming on other tours and not understanding anything. Yes, I remember.

I walked home feeling so full. Not that my Italian is perfect. It's so far from it... but God's grace is! But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 1:9

Oh April! You brought me to tears - for the pain of not doing as well on the test as you wanted (I totally relate-though not in language school), but also for the blessing He gave you in the tour, to know His Grace & love. You're such a blessing to so many people (a few I know pretty well :) and I'm sure the Italians are loving you to pieces.
